WOODBRIDGE, NJ, January 6, 2014 – The Hampton Inn Woodbridge announced last week that George Throop, who is walking across America, had been staying with them for a few days after the New Year as he makes way through New Jersey via New Brunswick to Woodbridge en route to Long Island, New York.

Enjoy The Walk is the initiative of George Throop who is spreading the positive message of healthy living and daily exercise across the nation. After his mom passed from cancer at the age of 33, Throop realized that most of the 4,000+ cases of cancer that Americans are diagnosed with every single day can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices. Therefore, he made it his mission to inspire good health in others. Throop is taking millions of steps across America to inspire his fellow Americans to take healthy steps forward in their personal lives. As he walks across America, he asks us to (at minimum) get up, go out and take a walk today.

Upon his arrival to the Hampton Inn Woodbridge, Throop had completed approximately 4,700 miles of the cross-country walk. Throop will finally reach the Atlantic in Long Island, and after taking some time off, intends to someday return to NYC and walk to Maine.

Starting out in his native Washington State travelling down the Pacific Coast to trek across the Southwest from Santa Monica (Los Angeles) through Austin, Texas (a favorite city of the traveler), then into New Orleans to Pensacola, Florida where he then began the walk up the Northeast Coast.

“The Northeast is a fascinating section of the country,” said Throop, “There are all of these pockets of history, dynamic accents, and pride from one region to the next.”

After chatting about football and other New Jersey allegiances and nuances, the Hampton Inn Woodbridge Team offered suggestions of safe walking routes into NYC. As Throop plans to complete his trip by ending in Long Island, the team at the Hampton Inn wanted to know what the most rewarding experience has been so far. Throop responded that the people he has met have had a most amazing impact on him. He set out from his home in Washington State, planning on spending 98% of the nights in his tiny tent. Throop has been hosted by a wide variety of kind and friendly people across America, spending 95% of his nights indoors, and has only spent seven nights outdoors since leaving Houston on foot.

“It’s something so big and encompassing, I love nature in that way and have loved seeing

nature all along the way,” said Throop, “Especially in the redwood forests, and even in the desert, plains and swamps as well.”
